Fruit smoothie or nah?!

Fruit smoothie or nah?!

In a bid to stay healthy…plus to put my fruit to good use before they go bad…hehe
Here’s what I whipped up to please my taste buds and console myself for being back at work today! 🙂

Ingredients
4 bananas
1 mango
1 large lemon
3 clementines
Cabbage (surprised? As much as you please)
100g low fat natural yoghurt

I blended these all together and placed them in the fridge to cool. Yummi-ness and healthiness all in one. Cabbage is my new favourite vegetable. So I’m pretty keen to eat it in everything and anything these days. I’ve never had a favourite veg so perhaps that’s why!

I’ve seen a lot of fruit and veg smoothies and diets these days, I figure I’d like to try this myself! But rather than buy them, make my own. If not for weight loss or health purposes, you can’t go wrong with a veggie fruit smoothie. Bonus is you’re getting one or more of your five-a-day…or is it seven?? :-s

Another good smoothie recipe here!

Have a great week!

P.S. I’ve had this really interesting draft blog sitting around which I haven’t posted! It’s inspired by The Stylist magazines “I’m fine” article published about two weeks ago and I found it absolutely hilarious! It was basically about females and how we use the phrase “I’m Fine”, what we really mean and how men interpret this! I loved it! Purely because as a female I throw about that phrase so much never really meaning it! I couldn’t find the link for it otherwise I would have shared! But I promise to get mine in the works and out for a laugh and some tips for handling “I’m fine” scenarios! 🙂

Are you ‘Berry’ crazy?!

Are you ‘Berry’ crazy?!

Summer may be long gone, but there’s no reason why the summer goodness has to go too!!

I tend to make use of my Sundays perfecting my baking skills and of recent I’ve stumbled across loads of interesting baking recipes! One that I find particularly friendly, and I describe it as ‘friendly’ just because I feel anyone who isn’t a pro can follow the steps quite easily or adapt it to their own style, is ‘The Little Book of Treats by Macmillan Cancer Support’. It’s filled with celebrity recipes, the likes of Mary Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Dame Maggie Smith, Dolly Parton and loads more which is pretty awesome I think 🙂 ! Check out their website if you’d like one, it supports a great cause!

I took inspiration from Mich Turner’s ‘Madagascan Berry Vanilla Cake’ recipe and whipped together my own Raspberry and Blueberry medley which was absolutely sensational, if I may say so myself! I find berry cakes to be a favourite of mine, just cause their filled with all this fruity goodness (and surely some portion of your five-a-day), they give my cakes the perfect degree of moisture I like and as a plus, berry’s are really good for your health; low in calories, high in fibre and full of vitamins and nutrients the body needs! So here’s how it all turned out…..

This was the first time I ever worked with icing! But I loved the finished look it gave to my cake! I think icing always gives that extra ‘oomph’ to the appearance of a cake, if used in moderation as I’m also not the biggest fan of icing, but a nice top layer is just right! I had a bit of extra berry’s left to play with and I put them to good use…..

….Waste not want not! My adventurous side definitely kicked in here! There’s a first time for everything and I really don’t think there’s anything out of the ordinary when it comes to making smoothies! I threw my blueberries and raspberries into the blender, a tub of natural Greek yoghurt and a teaspoon of sugar! It tasted amazing, I loved the natural feel of the berry seeds combined with the smoothness the yoghurt helped create! If you’re not up for a smoothie, why not pop your smooth blend into the freezer…and voila your own Berry Sorbet! 🙂 !!!!

Summer Smoothies!

Summer Smoothies!

It’s Friday night, I’m stuck babysitting alone, but as the night is drawing to a close (at least for the kids), I’m looking forward to a little me time catching up on shows with a nice yummy smoothie! Usually it would be a coffee, but considering the Amazing heat wave we’re experiencing, there’s no better time to indulge in some refreshing fruit smoothies!

Fruit smoothies are super yummy and healthy and seeing as summer time is the only time we can really indulge, why not if not, you can mix up any fruits you please thus their bound to rock anyone’s boat! So I was ‘slurping’ on this Pinger Smoothie (I’ve dubbed it that) which my sister made and decided to share its glory!

What you will need:
1 Pineapple
1/2 Ginger
1 Lemon
1 Blender/Smoothie maker
1 Jug or Bottle (To store in the fridge before serving)
(And that’s it!) Easy peezy Lemon squeezy!

You can probably see how I came up with the name now, ginger but with a ‘P’ lol! Just cause I found that to be the most bizarre ingredient, and obviously I wasn’t going to refer to it as a ginger smoothie (cringing at the thought of that) but my doubts were silenced by the end result! It had a nice zingy sweet refreshing taste!

Perfect drink for our current 30deg temperatures! So ditch the coffee, save the £3 charge from shops and get active whipping up your own summer goodness! Be it for friends, lazy weekends or BBQ’s! You can’t go wrong making this! 🙂
